What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a NICE-approved therapy for treating trauma. Sometimes when difficult things happen to us, we feel overwhelmed and our brains cannot process in the way that they usually do. When this happens, the memory seems to get ‘stuck’ and interferes with our lives in the present. We find it difficult to move on.
Using bilateral stimulation – eye movements, buzzers or taps – our brains are stimulated to reprocess the trauma, so that it gets properly filed in our memories as something that happened in the past. Our emotions and reactions around the memory are less charged, more appropriate.
You might come knowing that you want EMDR or it might be something I suggest as part of our work together. EMDR sessions tend to be longer that the standard therapy session i.e. 90 mins at a fee of £120
